Campervan insurance

A campervan is a vehicle that acts as means of transport and also provides everyday facilities like sleeping accommodation, kitchen with stoves (fuelled by gas/battery/electricity) and refrigerator, portable toilets (some even have showers), air conditioning, heater and a roof that pops out or that is fixed. Makes vary from country to country as do the names (Recreational Vehicle in the United States, Kombi in Australia). A campervan is your ideal choice for holidays where you can drive around either in or out of the country at your own pace and enjoy the surroundings with the comfort of your home. You want to make sure then that the campervan will be covered in case there is an accident or it is damaged or something. Getting insurance for your campervan is very important and pulling off the right policy is just as important.

A campervan insurance policy is not as expensive as that of other vehicles because it is used less often and so you can get a good deal with it since you have to be a very good driver to drive one and so you are less prone to have an accident and you will not drive leisurely in your van during rush hours, so the risk goes down again but it is good to check out some agencies before deciding on the best one. Insurance premium can be based on campervan makes and models or can be tailor made according to your needs. Be it temporary coverage or permanent, most of all your other paraphernalia like stove, equipments and other camping material can be covered at a good deal (can be in the £2,000 or more depending on the agency); some agencies even offer travel insurance as part of the package if you want to tour Europe.

Criteria to be considered for coverage include the model of the campervan (some models may have parts that are more difficult to replace and so the premium rises), mileage (the more miles it covers, the higher the premium), security means (how it is stored as well as key and lock coverage), equipment coverage, claims (no claim bonus or some agencies provide coverage if claims have not been made within a specific period of time), legal matters, loss/damage done to the vehicle, foreign travel (all purpose coverage in the EU), damage and coverage to third party/property, windscreen coverage and excesses that you are expected to cover. But finally, the policy will depend on what you want to be covered and the contract can be made as such.

Many agencies offer a 15% discount if you are a member of some particular clubs, discounts on limited mileage, coverage for converted campervans, specialist make coverage (Volkswagen Camper Insurance, Classic Camper Policies, Japanese Import Camper Schemes to name a few) etc. You can choose to get a quote right online and compare prices from different agencies or you can walk up to one agency and discuss the policy contract directly with an insurer.
