I am 46 with 9 years NCB and the insurance on a Corsa is £165.00p fully comp. I put my son as a second driver just passing his test and they want £2500.00p. It is just a scam as many older drivers are worse and do not even know the highway code! Insurance companies are no better than bankers!!!
Jim,
It's true that many "more experienced" drivers are actually worst off than newer drivers because although they know how to drive (actually manoeuvre a car), they are not what we call "good drivers" in reality. It may be because they don't know when to give way or respect speed limits but just because they've accumulated enough no claims bonus, they are able to get cheaper premiums than new drivers. It's a shame really but that's how the system work.
£2,500 for adding your son to your policy is quite steep. Which company is that with? I'd suggest you try a car insurance comparison site to see how much other insurers are charging to get an idea whether your current insurer is quoting you a fair price. You don't necessarily need to switch company but it's worth knowing what others are charging for the same service.
