Learner drivers should get cheaper insurance
As it stands, car insurance for learner drivers are very expensive because the insurance industry treats them as being of very high risks. The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) said provisional car insurance should be made cheaper to enable learner drivers to have more practice in their family cars which would eventually lead to better and safer drivers on the roads.
When driving under supervision, learners are less prone to accidents as well. Therefore learner drivers car insurance should reflect this and not charge a standard and high rate for all. This would encourage drivers with a provisional licence to learn with their parents as well as their driving instructors which is rarely the case at the moment because of the insurance costs involved in private learning.
If nothing is done, UK roads will become less safe as new drivers will have less driving experience although they might have passed their driving test or driving without insurance will be encouraged as a measure to get more driving practice.
