Having spent literally hours on the net and on the phone trying to resolve this one, I again contacted my existing insurance company for the third time where my car is in joint names and amazingly they agreed to mirror my 9 year no claims bonus on to a policy in my joint partners name, in this case my wife. This may resolve the issue for some. For some ridiculous reason my original policy was cheaper in joint names than just my name.
